What’s so special about New Orleans?
The motto of New Orleans is “laissez les bon temps rouler”, a crude English to Cajun-French translation of “let the good times roll”. It’s something you can see and feel, it’s the spirit of New Orleans.
In the 60s and 70s New Orleans became a prominent centre of funk, and was home to some of the earliest and now legendary swamp-funk bands. “Funk” has several different meanings in American popular discourse, but since the 1970s it has largely connoted a heavily syncopated, groove-centered style of African-American music.
The Food of New Orleans also reflects the multicultural mele of the people that make up the city. It is perhaps the most distinctively recognized regional cuisine in the United States. New Orleans’ food culture is one of the most diverse in the US and reflects Cajun, Creole French, Spanish and soul food influences. It’s food that’s perfect for a celebration.
